10 Korean’s Skin Care Steps For The Healthy Skin At Home

Have you heard about the 10-step Korean skin care? Koreans are well-known for their glowing and flawless skin. It is because they have a long tradition in taking care of beauty. Besides, their skincare products are always highly appreciated about the quality. In recent years, people have been interested in Korean’s popular 10 step skincare routine for the wonderful results it brings to their skin. Ten steps seem a lot and daunting at first, right? Don’t worry! We are here to make the steps easier for you to understand and apply them to fit your needs. Maybe it takes a little longer, but the worthy result you get is the perfect and healthy skin as you have ever expected.

1. Step One: Makeup Remover & Oil Cleanser

The first thing you have to do is to remove eye makeup by using good makeup remover. However, this way can’t erase every streaks of mascara on your lashes, which makes you extremely uncomfortable. That is the reason why you must use an oil cleanser to remove all the makeup left on your face. Oil cleanser is considered the base of the Korean skincare routine that is very soothing to use. Besides removing the oil-based makeup, it can also get rid of dirt accumulated in the skin during the day, sunscreen and other impurities like pollution particles as well.

Firstly, use an oil cleanser and massage it over your face with the gentle and circular motions of your fingers. It is believed that massaging the face helps to improve blood circulation, which makes skin brighter. After that, you add a small amount of tepid water to emulsify the oil cleanser. Continue to massage your face and wash everything.

2. Step Two: Foam Cleanser

Korean women believe that the key to achieving glowing and acne-free skin is careful and proper cleansing. In fact, after only one clean, there are still remaining residues on your face causing potential negative effects for the skin. For this reason, they always rinse the skin off again with foaming cleanser as an effective way to deal with this problem. The second cleanse is bound to remove completely all impurities left such as sweat or dirt, making your face clean and supple. And it is also called double cleansing (first with oil and then with foam). In short, a foam cleanser is a must-have for skincare!

3. Step Three: Exfoliate

The skin is the softest when all dead skin cells that have been collected on the surface are removed thoroughly. Therefore, exfoliating is the best solution for this. Exfoliator is one of the important steps in weekly skincare process of women. However, this step is unnecessary to practice every day, especially if you have sensitive skin. Use an exfoliator at least 2-3 times a week to slough off dead skin cells, clean out clogged pores and stimulate skin turnover. Not only does this step keep your skin youthful, bright and clear, but it also helps the skin to absorb other skincare products better. In other words, exfoliating, along with the double cleansing, helps to maximize the next treatment’s effects. This step is very easy to apply! All you need to do is use a non-irritating exfoliate and massage it gently over your face for smoothing and softening the skin.

Note: If you have sensitive skin, you should only exfoliate once per week.

4. Step Four: Toner

It is the fact that, after many times of cleansing, your skin seems to be in a fragile state. That is the reason why you should use a toner. Toner is loved by almost Korean women for its natural ingredients. It is the product that hydrates the skin, moistures it, and balances the PH of your skin. Toners also contribute to shrinking the pores and refreshing the skin. Last but not least, it helps to prevent ingrown hair thanks to its glycolic or alpha hydroxy acids.

This step also plays a vital role in helping the skin to absorb the full benefits of the other skincare products. To practice it, you sprinkle some toner into hands and tap it into your skin. Instead of this, you can also dispense toner onto a cotton pad and then pat your face skin. We are that this step will bring you an extremely relaxing and comfortable feeling.

5. Step Five: Essence

The essence is regarded as an indispensable part of Korean skincare (of course together with the double cleansing). As said by Charlotte Cho, co-founder of Soko Glam “Essence is the heart of the Korean skincare routine, and it is a skincare category that was created in Korea”. It is a treatment product similar to serums, but more watery and tends to be less concentrated than serums, also called serum hybrid. Some of the popular beauty essences you can use are La Mer The Brightening Essence Intense, LJH TeaTree 90 essence or SK-II Mid-Day Essence, etc.

Their major purposes are to promote the renewal process of skin cells, bringing about increasing the skin’s elasticity and firmness. Moreover, essence works as a moisturizer that keeps the skin soft, smooth, and bright. Thanks to adding moisture into the skin, it assists in preventing and slowing down the aging process effectively, maintaining and making your skin healthier and stronger.

After the toner step, you apply an essence to the fresh skin and pat it in, which gives a better serum absorption in the next step.

6. Step Six: Treatments

Serums, booster or ampoules are considered concentrated essences that treat directly the skin specific problems, making you worried. These treatment products aim at dull skin, large pores, loss of firmness, fine lines, dehydration, etc. It is because serums are formulated with active ingredients concentrating on specific needs by skin type. Compared with moisturizer, it is more water-based, absorb more quickly and pass through the skin more deeply. Tap it into your face skin softly!

7. Step Seven: Sheet Masks

Sheet masks are immersed in beneficial ingredients such as minerals, antioxidants, many vitamins, and Hyaluronic acid. By using sheet masks, all these ingredients are delivered into the skin directly without evaporating too quickly thanks to the barrier created by the sheet. It can focus on increasing collagen, which stops the aging process and keeps the skin glowing. Especially, the sheet mask is regarded as a simple but effective way to hydrate your skin. It works as a massage at home. Thus, you don’t have to spend much money on expensive services of spa but still have your skin looked after thoughtfully. Nothing is better than that!

Not difficult to use, you need only to put one sheet masks on your face and chill for 15-20 minutes. To get the best results, use this mask 1-2 times per week or even every day if you like improving your present skincare routine.

8. Step Eight: Eye Cream

The skin around the eye is relatively susceptive to dryness. Besides, it is also where symptoms and signs of aging such as lines, wrinkles, puffiness or dark circles appear more quickly. Therefore, you have to be careful when treating this skin area. To deal with these problems, the most helpful advice for you is to use an eye cream. An eye cream contains a lot of active ingredients, which help common skin problems near your eyes effectively. It helps to moisturize, prevent aging, and treat several issues such as dark circles or fine lines. Though ultra-concentrated, this cream is gentle enough not to irritate the most fragile skin area of the face. Use your ring finger for tapping smoothly (avoid rubbing) the eye cream around the orbital bone, apart from the water line.

9. Step Nine: Moisturizer

The secret to achieving the young, soft, and glowing skin at all ages is hydration. Hence, it is very significant for you to find a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. A moisturizer will make a barrier to seal in all beneficial ingredients that have been absorbed into the skin, preventing them from evaporating outside. By this way, it hydrates your skin, keeps the moisture, smoothies any fine lines, and gives you a glowing complexion as expected.

Apply a moisturizer into your face and then pat it. You can practice this step in the morning and at night every day to get the best results.

10. Step Ten: Sun Protection

It can’t be denied that sunscreen is the most vital product you have to use when going out, even in a short time. In other words, sun protection helps to save you from the sun’s harmful effects like UV rays. Along with the protection, it is also known as the best and simplest solution to prevent premature aging process as well as skin cancer. Always remember to use sunscreen every morning, and apply it again throughout the day as needed.  You will be completely surprised with the protection sunscreen brings for your skin.
